How can you play .FLAC file?

A: Find a player to suit as suggested or
B: Convert the file to another format.
The optimum formats to convert to are wav or mp3.

If your friend converted an original wav file (large) to flac (smaller). Converting back to .wav format will preserve the full quality of the file.
The Flac conversion algorithm preserves all the quality of the original.
Flac = Free Lossless Audio Codec.

Converting to mp3 (small file) there is audio information loss but by converting to 128 kbps or above you will be unlikely to detect a difference unless using high end reproduction equipment.
